![]() In the Little Shuswap, BCWS crews continued to mop up guards east of Banshee Lake and adjacent to Banshee Road. After Tuesday, temperatures should return to normal, with cooler days, more humidity and longer nights allowing for a better environment to manage the flames. Possible minimal precipitation is forecast for the region on Tuesday evening (Aug. I think the bike rental shop is moving from Spooner to the end of the trail in July 2012.The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said that while there had been an increase in fire behaviour in the Bush Creek East blaze in the Shuswap, there had been no significant change to the size of the wildfire, which remains at 43,000 hectares and out of control.īCWS information office Mike McCulley warned of several major safety hazards in the area, including danger trees. If you plan to do turn-around option get an early start in order to avoid the crowds on the trail. If I did it again I would start at Spooner Lake and at end of the flume part of trail turn around and ride back to trail head. The only scary part for me was the 40 foot walk through the landslide area. You would fall a looong way if you fell off the trail but the chances are slim (the shuttle driver says he doesn't know of anyone that has taken this route but said injuries do occur going down the sandy road at the end). The flume trail hugs side of mountain (it is an old flume bed once used as water source for Virginia City) but pretty buff and not very steep or difficult. The scenery on the whole trip is good, on flume part of trail the views of the lake are awesome. I'm 50 year old intermediate biker (couple of 2 hour rides a week and the gym) and made it up the climb fine with a few stops. A dirt road climbs for 4 miles and goes around small lake, a trail descends the 'flume' for ~5 miles then a very sandy steep roadbed goes down to the shuttle pickup. This is the perfect vacation bike ride, it's easy to rent bikes at trail head with nice people at Spooner lake, ride the trail then take their shuttle back to shop (google 'flume bike trail' for rental info). Bottom line: If you attempt for the first time, understand that it will take more effort than you probably expect! ![]() ![]() I can say with confidence that if we had better understood the challenge it would be, we definitely would have passed on this ride. Overall, our biggest disappointment was that we felt misinformed about the degree of difficulty. The shuttle service back to the trail head is a must unless you want to spend another three hours +/- getting back. However, the rental shop at Spooner Lake was great and the equipment was also nice. No doubt the views are divine but after all the toil it takes to get to them (+/- 8 miles) we were in less of an admiring mood. Unfortunately, we spent a good deal of time walking our bikes secondary to the steep climbs, sandy terrain, and occasional technical turns. We are both quite fit (cross-training exercise 3-4x/week minimum) and casually road bike fairly frequently. Our ride quickly went from enjoying to surviving as this trail was much more demanding than expected of described. The Flume Trail was highly recommended and so we gave it a shot. My wife and I wanted to moutain bike during the first part of our Honeymoon when staying in North Lake Tahoe. ![]() It has a sweet-smelling odor and is friendly toward people. It’s also the world’s only flightless parrot, but it can “parachute” from a tree. The kakapo is probably one of the world’s most fascinating nocturnal birds.
![]() To obtain consensus merged intensities, equivalent observations are then merged by weighted averaging assuming normally distributed errors. The observed intensities are then corrected by each scale parameter to yield scaled intensities. Traditionally, these artifacts are accounted for by estimating a series of scale parameters that are intended to explicitly model the physics of the sources of error 6, 11, 12, 13 (see the Supplementary Note for a description of crystallographic data reduction). For example, beam properties like intensity fluctuations 7 and polarization 8, crystal imperfections like mosaicity 9 and radiation damage 10, and absorption and scattering of X-rays by material around the crystal all modulate the measured diffraction intensities in a manner, which varies throughout the experiment. These scales depend non-linearly on the context of each observed reflection as illustrated in Fig. Even under well-controlled experimental conditions, redundant reflections are expressed on the X-ray detector with different scales (Fig. ![]() The full realization of the promise of these methods hinges on the ability to separate signals in X-ray diffraction that result from subtle structural changes from a multitude of systematic errors that can be specific to a crystal, X-ray source, detector, or sample environment 6. Estimates of the amplitudes and phases of these structure factors allow one to reconstruct the 3D electron density in the crystal by Fourier synthesis.īased on these principles, advances in X-ray diffraction now permit direct visualization of macromolecules in action 1 using short X-ray pulses generated at synchrotrons 2, 3 and X-ray Free-Electron Lasers (XFELs) 4, 5. Each structure factor reports on the electron density at a specific spatial frequency and direction, indexed by triplets of integers termed Miller indices. The resulting images contain discrete spots, known as reflections, with intensities proportional to the squared amplitudes of the Fourier components (structure factors) of the crystal’s electron density. In an X-ray diffraction experiment, the electrons of a molecular crystal scatter X-rays, yielding patterns of constructive interference recorded on an X-ray detector. X-ray crystallography has revolutionized our understanding of the molecular basis of life by providing atomic-resolution experimental access to the structure and dynamics of macromolecules and their assemblies. We find that this approach is applicable to the analysis of many types of diffraction experiments, while accurately and sensitively detecting subtle dynamics and anomalous scattering. We successfully apply this method to monochromatic and polychromatic single-crystal diffraction data, as well as serial femtosecond crystallography data. Here, we present a modern Bayesian solution to this problem, which uses deep learning and variational inference to simultaneously rescale and merge reflection observations. Systematic effects, however, lead to the measurement of equivalent reflections on different scales, corrupting observation of changes in electron density. To compute the electron density of a molecule, the intensity of each reflection must be estimated, and redundant observations reduced to consensus intensities. Diffraction data contain patterns of bright spots known as reflections. Key to this revolution is detection of often subtle conformational changes from diffraction data. Novel X-ray methods are transforming the study of the functional dynamics of biomolecules. Sensitive equipment like some newer LED TVs, CFL light bulbs, and audio equipment perform best on a pure sine wave. Once you've sorted the capacity, you need to evaluate the devices you'd be connecting to the UPS, specifically their sensitivity to signal fluctuations. Thus, your UPS won't be saving your PC from losing power.Related: How to Select an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for Your Computer That's because some PSUs will actually recognize a simulated sine-wave frequency and shut down suddenly to protect themselves from the unexpected oddity in power. How it delivers that battery power to your PC or accessories is when sine-wave versus simulated sine-wave matters most. When your UPS detects a power surge or cut, it will switch to battery power. However, since the waveform is not always exact, these may not function as intended with PSUs that demand a stable and consistent input. These are often far less expensive than pure sine-wave UPS and can be useful for peripherals, small devices, and monitors. That's the same concept used to control PC case fan RPM. Simulated sine-wave UPS delivers a stepped, approximated waveform using pulse-width modulation (PWM). Essentially, your PC shouldn't know the difference between your UPS battery power and the power coming from the wall. What's the difference between sine-wave and simulated sine-wave UPS?Ī pure sine-wave signal will be a match for the AC mains power your PSU is expected from your mains. Due to their efficiency and clean power delivery, these are often the only type of UPS recommended for gaming PCs. Sine-wave UPS backups deliver a smooth, consistent oscillation of AC power directly to your PSU. There are two types of uninterruptible power supply to look out for when shopping around for your gaming PC: sine-wave and simulated sine-wave. A 650VA, at peak load, will maybe net you something in the range of seven minutes, though that is obviously with a far lower peak wattage. But if you're trying to run your PC and your monitor from it, you're probably looking at more like ten minutes of up-time. The best UPS for PC gaming FAQ How long will a UPS last?Īn uninterruptible power supply that rates 1500VA should run your computer for under an hour. The unit provides a single 1.5A USB port for charging a phone or tablet, so you don't have to use your device's power adapter, which is inevitably a wall wart that potentially overlaps another socket or two, so you free up sockets for other devices. Most UPS are large and belong on the floor, but APC encourages you to put the BE600M1 on a desk. The best part of the BE600M1 is its size. If you only plan to use the BE600M1 to power a Wi-Fi router, the unit will have enough juice to let you browse the internet in peace for several hours, even if the electricity in the rest of your house is gone. However, it has enough power reserves to plug in a router and a single display. That is your phone and possibly a tablet. I use three of the company's Smart-UPS professional-level units at home: two 1000VA units for my network and NAS gear and one 1500VA unit for my PC and displays.ĪPC's BE600M1 is excellent at providing battery and surge protection for the devices you use almost daily. The name APC is synonymous with high-quality UPS. So you can get a better read on which is best for you and your budget. We tested and found each UPS below to deliver precisely what we needed out of what should be an otherwise unremarkable-looking black box. Again it's meant to give you enough time to save your work and shut down your PC safely. The more devices plugged in, the shorter the runtime. These aren't personal generators, so you're looking at up to 10-15 minutes max battery runtimes on average. The time a UPS gives you to save your game or work will vary, depending on its power draw, and there are other things to consider, too. It's a bit pricey, but it'll provide plenty of juice for even the most power-hungry gaming PCs going for about 10-20 minutes after you lose power. Our current favorite is the CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD. This protects your precious system from fluctuations in outlet power and acts as a surge protector. A UPS utilizes internal batteries to deliver a steady flow of energy, and a good one will give you plenty of time to save your work or get to a safe point before shutting down your PC safely. ![]() If you have a high-end gaming PC, pairing it with an uninterrupted power supply as a backup is wise. ![]() Deep Space + Auburn + Indian Yellow Fall Color Palette The combination brings a sense of calm as well as warmth by being a bit easier on the eyes than brighter colors.
